When Sound is an Attitude. RHR's hard-edge style in our latest residency on Hong Kong Community Radio (airing 4 Mar 22).

Our next guest on Hong Kong Community Radio is the Diadema (Brazil) - born artist RHR, who has pioneered a craft inspired by the trails of his origin. Since our second CIRCA season in collaboration with RinseFrance, in which he took us into his studio, we've been following the evolution of an artist and producer who has been creating a dark-tinged blend of electro, techno, and baile funk.

If you haven't heard of him yet, it's time to keep scrolling.

His latest arrival "Linha de Ofício 93" is a 6-track EP on New York record label Tijolo is a "glimpse of his mind scenario and accompanied by a video project that tells us more about the songs and RHR's thought process."

After signing to Omnisdisc back in 2012 for his first album Nocturnal Fear [OMD021] a very well received release that had a lot of airplay, he is now back with his own expanding sound signature. In a review on Resident Advisor, journalist Felipe Maia describes this perfectly: when RHR wants to tackle the dance floor, he goes for edgy sounds like growling motorcycle engines or distorted horns of the classic "Volt Mix" rhythm (also known as Tamborzão) as in "Na Captura". Even the more contemplative tracks like "Proibidão" or "Sem Sono" are still heavy, the pounding kicks carefully filtered while square waves are shaped into surging synth lines. RHR's music creates a concrete jungle mood of tension and alarm, and "Linha de Ofício 93" offers no escape from this mood.

RHR aka Ronier Santos' sonic experience and background are strongly rooted in styles such as old school funk, Brazilian rap, and the familiar musical influences of forró and capoeira. RHR continues to run the Gowpe label with Leonardo Faria. Originally conceived as a brand, it is now a platform for sound and artistic experimentation.

Here a short list of Roniers works. Can't wait to hear what he is up to next.
