LAZA – Chamas Do Cerrado

@lazaro.uilgner AKA Laza mixes elements of Drum n 'Bass, Brazilian funk, Break Funk, Grime and Arrocha funk on his latest EP "Chamas Do Cerrado". For his release on the Berlin-based label @dissolutenet, the São Paulo-based artist embarks on a solitary journey to the roots of his origins, the city of Jataí, one of the largest savannahs on earth, which strongly inspired him to deconstruct the intense rhythmic atmospheres that make up the spirit of the EP.

In each track, LAZA tells the story of places in the state of Goiás through sound, permeating bodies in a dance rhythm and exploring the nature of samples in search of new melodies, textures, dark beats that catch and invite you to dance.


As an integral part of the creative scene in São Paulo, LAZA has been producing music since 2017, released on labels such as Clube Tormenta, A-MIG, T.REC, Soul Fedder and CIRCA. Soundtracks for Sal Paulo's Fashion Week and the work on an HBO series bring LAZA to the most diverse projects with his music. NSNS editor S(GBA) asked LAZA 5 quick questions to get to know his project.

Where are you now and how are you?

I'm living in São Paulo working on the production of an HBO series and reconciling it with the execution of my musical projects. I'm fine and working hard.

Tell us about the launch. How was the process of making ‚Chamas Do Cerrado‘

The EP production process was very lonely, but that doesn't mean it was significant, but rather an investigation into my introspection. I produced all the songs in my room at my mother's house in Jataí-Goiás. To manifest in sonorities all my sensations in the territory of Goiás. The climate and the culture of the place were very important in the construction of this project.

How did the relationship with Dissolute come about?

It was fun. In 2017, when I was at the beginning of my studies of electronic music production, I received a message from Dissolute on soundcloud inviting me to release an LP. I didn't believe the first one, because I never imagined that this would be possible, especially in my country, almost no one knew me, and I was never invited to arrive from outside anything at that time. I accepted the proposal and from the construction of projects together. First we released the LP Mergulho in 2019 and now this Chamas do Cerrado. I really want to thank Maximilian Langenbacher and Jakob Tho for their support, they were amazing to me at all times.

The EP is composed of sound elements from Drum n' Bass, Brazilian Funk, Brega Funk, Grime, Arrocha Funk and Ambient with a clear influence from the Brazilian music scene and experimental electronic music. are electronics for you as a connection between the current music scene in Brazil and the genres you bring to Cidade Abelha?

The Kick of Cidade Abelha is the metric of Brazilian Funk. Mix funk vocal samples with dark synth Trance pads and an electrifying bass that is typical of electronic music.

What's next for Laza and what should we look for?

There's going to be a mix at ma3azef, some shows in Brazil, and I'm organizing some visual radio projects.

Onde você está agora e como você está?

Estou morando em São Paulo trabalhando na produção de uma série da HBO e conciliando com a execução dos meus projetos musicais. Estou bem e trabalhando muito.

Conte-nos sobre o lançamento. Como foi o último trabalho? 

O processo de produção do EP foi muito solitário, mas isso não significa que foi significativo, mas sim uma investigação na minha introspecção. Eu Produzi todas as músicas no meu quarto na casa da minha mãe em Jataí-Goiás. Manifestar em sonoridades todas as minhas sensações no território goiano. O clima foi muito importante e a cultura do lugar na construção desse projeto.

Como surgiu a relação com a Dissolute?

Foi divertido. Em 2017, quando eu estava no início dos meus estudos de produção de música eletrônica, revebi uma mensagem do Dissolute no soundcloud me convidando para lançar um LP. No primeiro não acreditai, pois nunca imaginei que isso seria possível, ainda mais no meu país quase ninguém me conhecia, e também nunca me convidaram a chegar de fora nada naquele momento. Aceitei proposta e a partir da construção de projetos juntos. Primeiro lançamos o LP Mergulho em 2019 e agora esse Chamas do Cerrado. Quero muito agradecer a Maximilian Langenbacher e Jakob Tho pelo support, eles foram incríveis comigo em todos os momentos.
