What is Not / O Que Não Está by Brazilian Duo Fronte Violeta at CTM Festival 2022

Taking off from different worlds’ of cosmologies, languages and voices

"What Is Not / O Que Não Está"

is commissioned as part of the CTM Radio Lab. The work takes place in the context of end-of-the-world narratives, provoking the possibility of types of contact that trigger new perceptions of listening to what is absent, and to narratives, bodies, and technologies that survive disasters.

A multichannel sound installation and radio play created by Fronte Violeta together with director, actress and playwright Martha Kiss Perrone, featuring the collaboration of actress and performer Kay Sara and singer Juçara Marçal.

Happening as part of  CTM Festival 2022, the installation will be held in the Tieranatomisches Theater, a 18th century building that used to be a theater for animal dissection studies and is open for visitors from Jan, 31th to Feb, 5th, from 14:00 to 20:00

The virtual visits are conducted by local friends and colleagues within CTM’s extended network. Bringing with them their own set of knowledge, interests, and languages, each person joins you for the encounter rather like a new festival companion than a formal tour guide, discovering the artworks with you. Through intimate sessions, the Virtual Visits aim to foster an exchange of experiences, and to offer a glimpse of several CTM events at a time when more people than ever might not be able to make it in person.

ABOUT FRONTE VIOLETA:

FRONTE VIOLETA is a duo from São Paulo (Brasil) formed by multidisciplinary artist Anelena Toku and by musician and sound artist Carla Boregas. Since 2015, they’ve been developing an experimental investigation of sound related to other senses and languages, guided by a continuous interest in restoring and awakening sensitivity through a dialogue with the natural world.

Drawing on different medias, the duo creates immersive and multisensorial projects in which they combine experimental electronic and electroacoustic music compositions alongside with other practices such as video, live performance, installation, site-specific work and sound dramaturgy.

Some highlights from their works are the audiovisual piece “Lapso”, the performance based on an ephemeral score and installation “Notação Floral”, the sound dramaturgy of the play “Revolta Lilith”, “Cri”, a sound piece for synthesizers, crickets and birds, the live performance for FACTmag filmed amongst São Paulo metropolis downtown and a site-specific work for sauna “Castanho”, produced during the artistic residency at Silo - Arte e Latitude Rural. One of their most recent work, “Clarão”, was commissioned by Festival Novas Frequências in 2020 and it is formed by an audiovisual piece and an incense. Their latest album “Flama” was released in 2018 by the Japanese label Depth of Decay.
